What does the Quran say about the atom? The Quran uses the word dharrah, the tiniest thing an Arab could picture (a small ant or a speck of dust), usually translated "atom". It says not even an atom's weight, or anything smaller, escapes Allah's knowledge, and that every atom's weight of good or evil will be seen on the Day of Judgment.

What does the Quran mean by the sky as a "protected ceiling"? Quran 21:32 calls the sky "a protected ceiling". Tafsir explains that Allah holds it from falling and guards it from devils who try to eavesdrop. What does the Quran say about the water cycle? The Quran describes the journey of water in several steps: winds stir and spread clouds, clouds join into a mass, rain falls in measured amounts, settles in the ground and flows out again as springs that grow crops. It presents every step as a sign of Allah's mercy and a picture of the resurrection.

Why does the Quran say iron was "sent down"? Quran 57:25 says Allah "sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people". The same Arabic verb is used for livestock and clothing, which did not fall from the sky, so many commentators understood it as Allah creating and providing iron as a blessing. Some today link it to iron being formed in stars, but the wording does not point to that, so it is not a scientific proof.

Does Islam accept evolution? The Quran and authentic hadith teach that Adam (AS) was created directly by Allah from clay, without parents, and that all humans descend from him and his wife. For this reason mainstream Sunni scholars reject the idea that humans evolved from earlier species. Whether other living things developed over time is a question the texts do not address in detail, and contemporary Muslims discuss it with differing views.
